【CCF Hainan Agricultural & Technology Tour Completed Smoothly】

Organized by Centum Charitas Foundation with funding support from Youth Development Commission by HKSAR Home and Youth Affairs Bureau Committee, and co-organized by the Sanya Overseas Friendship Association, the “Hainan Agricultural & Technology Tour” was held from April 21st to 25th. A total of 38 students and teachers went to Sanya, Wenchang and Haikou to conduct academic visits.

 

On the first day, students from St. Teresa Secondary School, alumni and YWCA members of Strive and Rise Programme, and Centum Youth, first visited the Paddy Field National Park, where, through the introduction of the local lecturer, they not only learned about the reasons why Academician Yuan Longping, the “father of hybrid rice”, selected the site of the Park for the construction of the core research and development base of southern propagation of hybrid rice, but also learned about national seed breeding and other knowledge.

 

On the second day, the group participated in the Sanya Youth Exchange Activity. After attending the greeting activity, the group took a sightseeing bus to visit the Lu Huitou Park and overlooking the geographic landscape of Sanya. Afterwards, they went to the Li Storytelling Cultural Industrial Park, danced with bamboo sticks, and finally enjoyed a long-table feast with Li characteristics.

 

After lunch, the participants visited the Experience the Science of Manned Deep Dives, exploring the vertical stratification of the ocean, the history of human deep-sea exploration and the introduction of the world’s manned submersibles, etc., and as deep-sea players, they ‘dived’ into the FenDouZhe‘s dome to visit the deep sea, put on the VR 360° to experience the mysterious and peculiar deep sea as well as entering the deep-sea oasis of life and observing the amazing deep-sea creatures from a close distance, leaving deep memories in the deep sea.

 

At Sanya Overseas Chinese School, the participants not only visited the beautiful campus, but also had cultural exchanges with the students of the school, threw a frisbee and made paintings. Through the sharing and interactions between the youths of the two places and the joyful exchanges with each other, not only did they understand the differences in the cultures and education systems of the two places, but also built up valuable friendships.

Wenchang was another major destination where the participants had the privilege to visit the Aerospace Supercomputing Center and China’s first Hainan Commercial Aerospace Launch Complex. They were amazed and interested in the development of aerospace technology and experienced the simulation projects designed by the Center. Besides, the participants also visited the Song Ancestral Residence and listened to the history of Ms. Soong Ching Ling and the Soong family, and felt the dedication and hard work of Ms. Soong Ching Ling in the revolution.

The final destination was Haikou, where the Director of the School of Life Sciences of Hainan Normal University, Mr. Liang, explained the biological specimens of the Hainan Biodiversity Museum and the students listened attentively to the explanation, which helped them understand the ecological value of Hainan’s biodiversity. In the afternoon, the tour went to the Haikou Vegetable Basket Xinyi Farming and Lighting Complementary Vegetable Planting Base and learnt the operation mode of the base and experienced picking vegetables, in which all of them demonstrated their enthusiasm for active participation.

All the members had a more in-depth experience and contact with China’s agriculture and aerospace technology for their future development.
